Trip to the C & O Canal

My human sister thought it might be fun to try to find the C & O Canal that goes along Potomac River, which is about 20 minutes from where we live.  So we parked the car at Blockhouse Point Conservation Park, and walked down a trail that was supposed to lead us to the Potomac River.

The trail was a little longer than we thought, but there were plenty of things to smell and lots of grass to eat while my human wasn't looking.

And then we finally saw it!

We were so excited to down to the river, but unfortunately, there was a small creek between us and the actual trail with no bridge in between.  We went around trying to look for a bridge, but then my human got stuck in the mud!!  I didn't try to help her because I wanted her to learn some survival skills, but I also didn't run away even when she let go of my leash.  She was stuck knee-deep in the mud, and she was finally able to pull her legs out by leaving her shoes in the mud holes.  She had to reach into the holes to dig her shoes back out, but at that point her socks, jacket, phone, pants, and shoes were all very muddy, and she was NOT happy.  But who needs shoes anyway?  Woo didn't see me sinking in the mud!!

After my human finally got her shoes back on, we went splashing across the creek so we could walk the trail and not go home without having seen anything.  The scenery was enough to put my human back in her good mood.  Check out these pics!  To the left of us was the Potomac River, and to the right was the creek we crossed.

We saw some goose friends hanging out at the Potomac River as well.

The human tried to take pictures of me while I was sitting on a ledge, but I wasn't so keen on that idea.  This was her best shot of me.

We didn't get to walk for too long on the trail because it was about to get dark, but on our walk back to the car, we saw ducks, a woodpecker, and a blue heron!  My human also thought it was worth getting stuck in the mud.  I hope we get to go back soon (no mud traps next time, I promise!).

Allergies!!

Before my post on Sunday, the last time I updated my blog was in December 2011.  It's been way too long!!  My humans and I will try our best to catch up on all woor blogs.

To give woo a little update on what I've been up to this year:

I've been so itchy since late summer.  I scratched off a lot of the fur on my right ear, and my humans found small scabs on the back of my head, so on October 2nd, they took me to the VET where they...they SHAVED me!!  The infection turned out to be bigger than they thought, so this is how my head looked after they shaved me.

My humans thought a bath might soothe my itchies, so I had my first bath of the year on October 8th.  That's when they found another small skin infection on the back of my head!  So I had to go back to the VET on the 13th for more shaving and a re-check.  I was not pleased!!  They were shaving off my beawootiful fur!  This is how I looked about a week or two after being shaved.  Some of the fur already started growing back, so it wasn't too horrible, I guess.

The nice VET gave me some Chinese herbs to help my allergies, and it did help a little.  I'm not scratching as much as I used to anymore.  But I've still had three more "hot spots" (as the humans call it), so the humans shaved more fur off my neck area and my right hind leg.  My humans are looking into other things that might help with my allergies, but we really want to avoid steroids.  I really want to stop being so itchy!!

Thanks, Kat, for suggesting DERMagic.  I told my humans to definitely look into it.

On a more positive note, I finally passed 45 lbs!  I now weigh 49.8 lbs.  My VET said I used to be a little underweight, possibly due to poor production of pancreatic enzymes.  We haven't done another test yet, but I think the humans were pleased with my new weight.

That's it for now, but I will be back soon!  Good night!!

Black Friday Bath Day

Instead of going shopping like normal humans do on Black Friday, my humans thought it would be funny to trick me into thinking we were going shopping at PetCo, when they were actually taking me to get a bath!!  I've been having a lot of skin problems this year, so they thought it would be good for me to take a bath.  Look how upset I am!

I decided to show my humans how upset I was:
Then I started crying louder while they were drying me:
Hope woo had a more enjoyable Black Friday than I did.
